EDF-Renewables South Africa, with shareholders H1 Holdings and Gibb-Crede, celebrate the start
of construction for three new utility-scale wind projects. The projects are the first REIPPP Round
5 awarded projects to reach financial close. The 140MW San Kraal Wind and Phezukomoya Wind
farms are near Noupoort, in the Northern Cape. The 140MW Coleskop Wind farm is near
Middleburg, on the border of the Eastern Cape. All three projects will add 420MW to the Eskom
grid. The projects aim to create 590 jobs during the two-year construction period and 50 full-time jobs
during operations. The three projects will enhance the economic participation of the Umsobomvu
district community and should reach COD in the first quarter of 2025. The electricity produced
each year will help power approximately 193,000 South African households.
