On the 11th of December, H1 Holdings celebrated the commission of the RMIPPP Kenhardt projects in the Northern Cape, one of the world’s largest solar and battery storage projects. The massive project integrates battery and solar to improve much-needed grid stability. H1 is a 49% shareholder in the large-scale solar hybrid storage project and will work with project company, Scatec, on the Operations and Management of the plants. The Kenhardt projects were the first projects to be commissioned under the emergency Risk Mitigation Independent Power Procurement Programme. Kenhardt 1, 2 and 3 have an installed solar PV capacity of 540MW and battery storage capacity of 225MW/1 140MWh. The projects are supplying 150MW dispatchable power to the grid from 05:00 to 21:30. Kenhardt is the largest solar and battery storage project in Africa. The project is four times the size of the Cape Town stadium and includes about two million solar PV modules. The projects attracted investment of 1 billion USD, by Standard Bank and British International Investment.
